Last night, two inept franchises battled to the wire in their quests to move against their own interests. After leading comfortably most of the way, the Brooklyn Nets defeated the Sixers with a Nic Claxton tip in at the buzzer, 105-103. The “Big 3” played this game, well until Joel Embiid was benched in the 4th quarter and the Sixers mounted their doomed comeback.

With the loss, the Sixers took sole possession of the 6th worst record in the league and slightly improved their odds of keeping their draft pick which is top 6 protected from going to OKC. Unfortunately, their playoff deficit stayed the same as Chicago lost to the Suns in OT. Elsewhere, the Jazz won (good) while the Trailblazers annihilated the Hornets (good and bad).

Playoff Odds

We are still 1.5 games behind fellow disenchanted losers Chicago for the #10 seed in the play-in, but we now hold the #12 spot instead of a tie for #11.

(Note: If the Sixers qualify for the play-in but don’t end up making the playoffs, they still have a chance to win the lottery)

Per Basketball Reference, our current odds to finish in each place are:

10 or better – 33.1%

11 or worse – 66.9%

Odds of winning the play-in and making the playoffs – 6.7% (decrease of .9%)

For all you completely jaded fans out there:

47.5% chance of missing the playoffs AND not keeping a draft pick (decrease of 1.95%)

Next up: Home against Chicago (HUGE TANK GAME) on Monday 2/24.
