I can’t take waiting for the details of the new Saquon Barkley and Zack Baun contracts! This is all unofficial, but based on Eagles contract history, let’s see if we can figure these cap hits.

Saquon Barkley

Barkley had previously signed for 3/$37.75m. This came with a $26m guarantee, a signing bonus equivalent of 1 year salary, and 4 void years. This allowed for a first-year cap hit to only include his minimum player salary and 1/5th of that signing bonus. His cap hit was only $3.8m (WTF!).

Let’s assume that his new deal 2/$41m extension is similar. That would be a roughly $18.5m signing bonus with 2 extra void years tacked on (4 in total), and $36m guaranteed. That $18.5m would be divided over 7 years to get it down to $2.64m per season. This would mean his $22.5m would be broken down over two years, likely as single season salaries of $1.25m with $10m option bonuses (I am sorry, this is fun for me).

My apologies for saying earlier that his 2025 cap hit would go down, it is going to go up slightly. This should come with about $24.5m in dead money in 2029. There are also incentives of up to $15m in the contract that will need to be accounted for.

Zack Baun

We know that Baun is getting 3/$51m with $1.5m in incentives. Using the same logic as above, this should come with a signing bonus of about $15.5m and 4 void years. This means $34.25 Let’s check it out:

This will have a bigger dead cap than Saquon in the end, but the hope will be that he ages well and can sign on for another year, spreading this out further.

Cap Update

Assuming Brandon Graham retires, the Eagles had $18m to spend. Barkley already had a cap hit of around $7.5m. This would mean we are down to around $11m. On June 1, that number will go up to around $17m.
