I had high hopes going into the weekend. Brooklyn was sure to beat Charlotte and Toronto had to beat last place Washington, right? Then there was a tank-off showdown between the Jazz and Sixers on Sunday. Whelp. I actually thought the Nets game was over and missed their ELITE tanking skills in action. They went on a 12 point anti-run with 4 to go. Unbelievable stuff. The Raptors came just a hair short in a game they had no business losing. Even the Pelicans had a shot at the end against Memphis. Then there are the Sixers. They tried desperately to blow a 4th quarter lead, but gentlemen…WHAT ARE YOU DOING UP 21 IN THE 4TH QUARTER???? I won’t kill Adem Bona at least who had his best game as a pro.
At least Toronto beat Utah on Friday and the Bulls beat Miami so it wasn’t a totally lost weekend. We enter a pivotal week in the 7 spot, 1 game back of Brooklyn for 6, 1.5 games back of Toronto for 5, and 3.5 games back of Chicago for the play-in.
Lottery Odds
We were SOOOOOO close to bliss at #5, but at #7 things are dire. Am I over exaggerating considering there are still 19 games to play? No. In fact, I am UNDER exaggerating! Anything that makes these final 19 games tolerable I will hang on to like grim death.
1 – 6.8%
2 – 7.1%
3 – 7.5%
4 – 7.9%
6 – 0%
Total – 29.3% chance to keep the pick (9.35% decrease)
Playoff Odds
Bulls keep inexplicably winning which is nice. Huge jump for them this week…but who cares about them?
(Note: If the Sixers qualify for the play-in but don’t end up making the playoffs, they still have a chance to win the lottery)
Per Basketball Reference, our current odds to finish in each place are:
10 or better – 10%
11 or worse – 90% (.1% decrease (WTF!!!))
Odds of winning the play-in and making the playoffs – 1.5% (decrease of .2%)
For those who just want to watch the world burn:
69.2% chance of missing the playoffs AND not keeping a draft pick (increase of 9.55%)
Games to Follow Coming Up
Numbers in parenthesis is the number of games ahead and behind the Sixers in the standings. Sixers record is 22-41 with 19 games to play.
March 10
- SIXERS at Atlanta – Second half of a back-to-back should be a loss but Maxey might play and no one is going to just not-dunk on Trae Young this time.
- Lakers at Brooklyn (-1) – No Lebron tonight and Luka is a gametime decision. Better play it safe Lakers.
- Washington at Toronto (-1.5) – DO NOT DO THAT AGAIN RAPTORS YOU BETTER WIN OR I AM GOING TO LOSE MY GODDAMN MIND
- Indiana at Chicago (+3.5) – If all goes well tonight we will be .5 games out of 5th and 4.5 games out of the play in. I don’t ask for much basketball gods!
