Sixers fans gathered in Atlanta last night in a valiant attempt to Dunk Away the Demons. Alas, the horrors of Ben Simmons failing to destroy Trae Young’s love for basketball remain. For it was written in the Rights to Ricky Sanchez, Book of Process, Verses Twenty-Five to Seventy-Six…
First, shalt thou fly the Holy Process to Atlanta. Then, shalt thou dunk to eight. No more. No less. Eight shalt be the number thou shalt dunk, and the number of the dunking shalt be eight. Nine shalt thou not dunk, nor either dunk thou seven, excepting that thou then proceed to dunk to eight. Ten is right out. Once the number eight, being the eighth dunk, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Process towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall stuff it.”
Unfortunately, the number that thou dunked was only four. The demons remain.
Lottery Odds
The Nets take the lead, and we come right back. Both teams have lost 8 out of 10 and are on 3 and 4 game losing streaks. We remain tied for 5th in the reverse standings. Toronto was throttled in San Antonio and remain 1 game back.
1 – 9.8%
2 – 9.9%
3 – 10.0%
4 – 10.1%
5 – 2.2%
6 – 20.1% (Odds split due to tiebreaker)
Total – 62.1 % chance to keep the pick
Playoff Odds
I don’t completely understand why, but the Elimination Number is down to 5 from 7 despite Miami finally breaking their losing streak. Despite this, the odds of making the play-in are now, for the first time, so negligible that they are below .1% and are considered ZERO!!!! Again, not eliminated though.
(Note: If the Sixers qualify for the play-in but don’t end up making the playoffs, they still have a chance to win the lottery)
Per Basketball Reference, our current odds to finish in each place are:
10 or better – <.1%
11 or worse – >99.9%
Odds of winning the play-in and making the playoffs – >.1%
For those who just want to watch the world burn:
37.9% chance of missing the playoffs AND not keeping a draft pick (same)
Games to Follow Coming Up
Numbers in parenthesis is the number of games ahead and behind the Sixers in the standings. Sixers record is 23-48 with 11 games to play.
March 24
- Toronto (+1) at Washington – They can’t tank their way out of this one, right? If there was any game that they are going to fake every injury imaginable, it’s this one. Second game of a back to back too.
- Dallas at Brooklyn (EVEN) – There is a possibility that Anthony Davis comes back for this one. Can he just stay away one more game please? No rush buddy.
- Sixers at New Orleans (-4.5) – The 4 seed is pretty out of reach, but a Sixers loss would not only help with Brooklyn and Toronto, but would take us to 3.5 games back. Second game of a back to back for both teams.
