Marlins Out
It’s hard for a series win to feel worse than that, right? The Phillies dominated the Marlins in all facets…except the bullpen. Now we have major issues.
Game 1: 7-2 win
Zack Wheeler destroyed the Marlins in one of the most predictable matchups ever. Wheeler’s fastball was on and there was just nothing a young team like the Marlins could hope to do about it. The Phillies absolutely blitzed Sandy Alcantara to the tune of 6 runs in 2 innings. Harper homered and so did Schwarber. It was just a really nice low pressure night at the ballpark.
Game 2: 11-10 win
Things started very nicely. The Phillies had a 9-1 lead after 5 innings. Taijuan Walker left early due to shoulder stiffness, but nothing should have been a problem. We even took an 11-4 lead into the 9th inning when Jordan Romano came in. His velocity was fine, but his results were not. After 22 pitches, the tying run came to the plate. Alvarado had to come in and lock the game down. WTF!
Game 3: 7-5 loss
Jesus Luzardo wrecked his old team. For 7 innings and 88 pitches, Luzardo was barely touchable. He gave up a run on an error in the 7th that also caused him to throw 7 unnecessary pitches. Instead of keeping him out there Topper pulled him. The Marlins teed off on Orion Kerkering. Just like that, the lead was gone and Luzardo’s start was wasted. The Phillies were able to tie it up in the bottom half, but we were dead in the water and lost in the 10th. Just total bullshit from Topper who regularly leaves his pitchers in but decided not to this time in an incredibly predictable implosion.
Mets Up (Away)
Monday, April 21 at 7:10p – Aaron Nola v. Tylor Megill (R)
Megill somehow has a 1.40 ERA despite getting roughed up in his last 2 starts, giving up 14 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Only 2 ER though. In another classic reverse split situation that the Phillies will ignore, lefties are getting killed by the righty Megill to the tune of a .383 OPS. I’m guessing STILL no Edmundo Sosa tonight. Alonso and Starling Marte regularly kill Nola but he has kept Lindor in check.
Tuesday, April 22 at 7:10p – Cristopher Sanchez v. Griffin Canning (R)
Canning has somehow been a solid pitcher this season despite landing on several teams in the off season. No one is hitting too well off him this season, but again, righties are fairing better than lefties.
Wednesday, April 23 at 1:10 pm – Zack Wheeler v. David Peterson (L)
Finally, a standard matchup. Lefty Peterson kills lefties and gets torched by righties. All is right with the world. He has had a solid start to the season, not fairing too well or too badly so far in his 4 starts. He has yet to give up more than 3 runs in a start going 6 twice.
Cubs On Deck (Away)
Friday, April 25 at 2:20p – Taijuan Walker v. Colin Rea (R)
Saturday, April 26 at 4:05p – Jesus Luzardo v. Ben Brown (R)
Sunday, April 27 at 7:00 pm – Aaron Nola v. Jameson Taillon (R)

It’s weird seeing Zack Wheeler in a Mets uniform, right? Zack had all the talent but all the injuries in New York. The Phillies signed him in free agency and the injuries fell away. It’s been probably the best free agent signing in Phillies history. If you are going to Citi Field, Wheeler is the most disrespectful jersey to wear.
