Eagles Trade for Jaire Alexander

UPDATE: The original version was written in the dugout of a little league game I was trying to coach (I keep the lineup and yell at the kids). I smoothed it out.

The Eagles are sending a 6th round pick in 2026 to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for CB Jaire Alexander and a 2027 7th round pick. This is a pretty weak return for Baltimore who had to expect more this season from the former All Pro.

Why is the return so low? Because Alexander has been terrible this year. He hasn’t been right since a PCL tear ended his 2024 season. That being said, he hasn’t missed any games specifically due to injury this season. He just hasn’t been good enough to see the field.

Injury has been a common theme with Alexander through out his career. Including this season, he’s only topped 7 games once in the last 5 years. When he is fully healthy though, he’s made 2 All Pro teams. It’s that possible upside that the Eagles are betting on.

He signed a 1 year $4m deal with the Ravens this season, but only $2m of that is salary. That means a prorated roughly $1m goes to the Eagles books with no dead money in our future. The Ravens aren’t out of it, but saw an opportunity to get something from a guy who they had no intention of letting see the field anymore.

Alexander will be here for depth and hopefully will regain his form over the next few weeks. If he does, it’s another savvy move by Howie Roseman. If not? No big deal. There is reason for optimism though. The timeline of his injury was muddled. It occurred in Week 8, but he returned to action in Week 10 before being shut down for the rest of the season. It wasn’t until January that he actually had surgery on the injury. Yes, he should probably be fully recovered by now, but it’s also possible that Alexander and the Ravens medical staff were never fully on the same page with the injury. Alexander was still VERY good as recently as a year ago. If they can help his recovery, they may have something.

There are a couple of interesting wrinkles to this move. 1. Alexander was born in Philadelphia. 2. Eagles defensive backs coach Christian Parker spent 2 years coaching Alexander in Green Bay. 3. Alexander may make his Eagles debut in his old stomping grounds of Lambeau Field next Monday night. I’ll be there.

Now it’s time to go get a pass rusher!!!
