As of this writing, we are about 28 hours away from the NFL Trade Deadline and the Eagles are making moves. In the last few days, GM Howie Roseman has brought in nickel corner Michael Carter from the Jets, former All Pro Jaire Alexander from the Ravens, and now pass rusher Jaelan Phillips from the Dolphins. There is a pretty good chance the Eagles are done for the deadline, but PFO shall stay vigilant! Here is a look at possible moves still open to the Eagles and our competition.
Philadelphia Eagles
- Cap Room: The Eagles have approximately $9.5m in cap room left this season. Anything that goes unused will rollover into next season.
- Draft Picks:
- 2025: Eagles 1, Eagles 2, Jets 3, Comp 3, Eagles 4, Comp 4, 5th (its complicated), Comp 5
- 2026: Eagles 1, Eagles 2, Eagles 3, Eagles 4, Eagles 5, Eagles/GB 6, Jets 7, Ravens 7 – Comp picks unknown
- Needs:
CB,EDGE, DT Depth, Safety, Blocking TE- Calais Campbell of the Cardinals would be my #1 choice for a final move, but the Cardinals claim they aren’t trading anyone. I think that’s nonsense. Of course, they still play tonight, so that could change things
- Sheldon Rankins is on a fading Houston team that really should pivot to at least a soft sell. If a guy like Rankins who is playing well as a free agent to be, why not recoup something? They have to know that their offense is not playoff caliber.
- Jack Stoll is a former Eagles TE who is doing nothing in New Orleans. Time to bring him back and get some damn blocking in the TE room.
Los Angeles Rams
- Overview: The Rams are the Eagles foremost competition in the NFC in my book. Yes, we beat them already, but it was about as close a game as you are going to see with the Eagles winning on a blocked field goal. They have a Super Bowl winning QB and coach with a well rounded team.
- Cap Room: $14m
- Needs: Kicker and CB
- While everyone in the league seems to be kicking 60+ yard field goals, Rams kicker Josh Karty is missing from seemingly any distance. He’s 10-15 on the season with only 1 make from 50+. It is a dimension the Rams simply do not have right now.
- AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith ran roughshod over the Rams corners earlier this year. Cobie Durant and Emmanuel Forbes are “okay” but they can’t stand up to the Lions or Eagles come playoff time. Alontae Taylor was someone I wanted for the Eagles but should also be a Rams target for his physicality.
Seattle Seahawks
- Overview: Seattle is a team I was trumpeting in the offseason because they have drafted extremely well the last few years. This leaves a young complete team that will go as far as Sam Darnold will throw them
- Cap Room: $21.5m
- Needs: WR
- Cooper Kupp is about past his prime leaving Jaxon Smith-Njigba as THE threat in the passing game. Chris Olave and Jaylen Waddle would be the big swings for Seattle, but either would likely cost a 1st round pick. They do fit the timeline though of a win now team with young talent all over.
Detroit Lions
- Overview: I was a bit skeptical of the Lions heading into the Tampa game, but that assuaged my worry…until they lost to the Vikings last week! They are still good, but complacency seems to be the biggest thing keeping them from being a true contender
- Cap Room: $22.5m
- Needs: The best thing a talented team with worrying trends can do is add to the pass rush
- If Myles Garrett was a possibility for the Eagles, you can’t count him out for the Lions. This is an all-in-af move that would certainly get everyone in Philly’s attention
- Or they could go Jermaine Johnson from the Jets who would cost MUCH less but still be a clear upgrade.
Green Bay Packers
- Overview: Despite the big arm and Brett Favre comparisons, Jordan Love is not an elite QB. This is a good team across the board though. Losing to the Browns and now the Panthers are big red flags on this team’s leadership.
- Cap Room: $12m
- Needs: TE
- Breakout TE Tucker Kraft looks to be done for the season. This needs to be addressed immediately or the Packers will have to make some big changes to their offense. Michael Mayer of the Raiders and Cole Kmet of the Bears should be on the radar.
- Since the Packers went all in on Micah Parsons right before the season, any moves they make will likely be smaller upgrades rather than big splashes.
Buffalo Bills
- Overview: Despite being the small market darlings of sports that seemingly only get praised rather than criticism, the Bills aren’t unlike the Phillies in baseball. You beat the Chiefs in the regular season? Who cares, do it in the playoffs. Is there anyone who really thinks they can?
- Cap Room: $1.6m (lowest in the league)
- Needs: WR
- The Bills could go after Calvin Ridley, but that would mean the Titans pick up the tab on his remaining $10m in salary this season. This would mean paying extra like the Eagles did with Jaelan Phillips.
- If they really wanted to announce themselves as serious in these playoffs, they could go after Jaylen Waddle or Chris Olave. The Bills never seem to be the team that takes the big swing though.
Kansas City Chiefs
- Overview: The AFC is not that good and the Bills have a Chiefs problem. That’s why even though the Chiefs wouldn’t qualify for the playoffs today they are still the team to beat.
- Cap Room: $3m
- Needs: Defense
- Any defense will do as evidenced by the Bills doing whatever they wanted last night.
- A problem with the way the Chiefs do business is that because they pay huge premiums to only a few guys, they need to keep a steady influx of high draft picks coming in. That means trading from that reserve is not something they like to do. Bringing in someone like Trey Hendrickson sounds like a good idea, but in practice that’s not their business model.
