Their hold on the #1 spot was perilous these last few weeks and finally they lost their grip. The Titans defeated the Cleveland Browns last week and they did it in particularly harrowing fashion. Up 14 with 6 minutes left, the Browns scored two TDs but missed two 2-point conversions down the stretch to narrowly win and drop themselves down to #3. Wait, #3? It would have been #4, but the Saints defeated the Bucs to bring them up to 3 wins and down to 5th place. And then there were 3…
Dishonorable Mention: Washington Commanders
- Record: 3-10
- SOS: .511
- Overview: Losers of 8 in a row, the Commanders are trying to make good on my previous prediction that they lose out. It would take an unbelievable 12 game losing streak, but with Zach Ertz getting hurt and Jayden Daniels going down again, it is possible. They are currently in a 5-way tie for 4th worst record,1 but here is why I like their chances: their schedule. If they get past the Giants next week, not only does that give the Giants a much-needed win and topple them from the top 2, but from there they have the Cowboys between two games with the Eagles. In 3 weeks we have a Tank Rank double header that pits the Giants against the Raiders and the Titans against the Saints. That could thin things up quite a bit for the Commanders. Cleveland might be their biggest challenge.
- Remaining Schedule: at NY Giants, vs Philadelphia, vs Dallas, at Philadelphia
#3 Tennessee Titans (LW #1)
- Record: 2-11
- SOS: .573
- Overview: You have to give it to them, the Titans did their best to lose to the Browns, but they just couldn’t bring it home. Cleveland is like those Lakers teams with Shaq and Kobe when it comes to losing. They didn’t have to have the best record for you to know they were the most talented. That’s what the Titans ran into. That being said, if the Titans can lose out, they might be able to pull this thing off. The trick is going to be the Giants beating Washington but then losing to Las Vegas. If that happens and the Titans handle their business against the Saints, they are in business. Losing to the Saints won’t be easy though.
- Remaining Schedule: at San Francisco, vs Kansas City, vs. New Orleans, at Jacksonville
#2 New York Giants (LW #4)
- Record: 2-11
- SOS: .534
- Overview: Washington AND Las Vegas? That’s rough. Throw in Minny and the last week of the season and possibly eliminated Cowboys? That’s a steep hill to climb for the Giants. All season, this team has found a way though. Their biggest problem isn’t the easy schedule though, it is being the Giants. This is the team that was in a similar position last season and inexplicably won a game they shouldn’t have, dropping them to 3rd. We can all see that happening again.
- Remaining Schedule: vs Washington, vs Minnesota, at Las Vegas, vs Dallas
#1 Las Vegas Raiders (LW #2)
- Record: 2-11
- SOS: .548
- Overview: Raiders vs Giants might end up as the Tank Rank game of the season. Will it happen? The Giants have some obstacles, but I don’t have any worry about the Raiders getting to Week 17 at 2-13. They are beyond terrible and have now lost their QB. Are they going to go with Kenny Pickett or Aiden O’Connell? Either way, the Raiders are in good hands. It will truly be something if this team that began the year with such delusional thoughts of contention might end up with the #1 pick.
- Remaining Schedule: at Philadelphia, at Texans, vs NY Giants, vs Kansas City
