…is not when you would think. I want you to journey back to this past season for the Eagles fresh off a Super Bowl. Did you have fun? Even the year before, was it fun at any point other than by the 2nd half of the Super Bowl? Yeah, somewhat, but there is too much to lose when you are good and only one way to win. In fact, it’s mostly agony. Let’s rank them:
- Team is good but doesn’t know it yet. Think the 2025-26 Flyers…hopefully. Better yet, how about the 1993 and 2022 Phillies. Achievable goals and nothing to lose. Window is just opening.
- Team is bad and know it. The Process Sixers are the best example, but what about the 2020 Eagles making all the right moves to get back to the Super Bowl two years later? You’ve already hit rock bottom, now it’s time to climb out. The window behind you is shut, but you aren’t even thinking about that window anymore.
- Team is good and everyone knows it. Being a contender isn’t nearly as fun as it should be because you have too much to lose. Window is wide open though.
- Team is bad and doesn’t know it. The 2025-26 Sixers (and the 2026-27 Sixers) don’t realize yet that they are dead but they very much have nothing to play for. This is also their one saving grace though, at least we don’t actually have to care or invest in them. The window is closed.
- Team is good but not getting better. The worst time to be a fan is with the 2026 Phillies. The window is still open, but barely. Because of that, we have to run around with our hair on fire about every little thing, driving ourselves crazy for the fleeting chance at contention. We WISH we didn’t have to care.
