Going back through the last 26 years of the Phillies making moves at the trade deadline. There have been some good moves (Cliff Lee) and some bad moves (Cole Hamels) but thankfully no prospects have come back to really haunt us yet. Here’s hoping that trend continues. I may add to this in the future.
- 2025 (Buying)
- Twins: Jhoan Duran for Eduardo Tait and Mick Abel
- Twins: Harrison Bader for Hendry Mendez and Geremy Villoria
- Summary: Two trades that could not have worked out better, though we do not yet know how good the players we gave up will become
- 2024 (Buying)
- White Sox: Tanner Banks for William Bergolla
- Orioles: Seth Johnson and Moises Chace for Gregory Soto
- Angels: Carlos Estevez for George Klassen and Sam Aldegheri
- Orioles: Austin Hays for Cristian Pache and Seranthony Dominguez
- Summary: Estevez turned into a pumpkin in the playoffs which was still better than Austin Hays and his kidney disorder.
- 2023 (Buying – if you can call it that)
- Pirates: Rodolpho Castro for Bailey Falter
- Tigers: Michael Lorenzen for Hao-Yu Lee
- Summary: Lorenzen threw a no-hitter and was never heard from again. Still worth it, that was a great night. We needed another reliever though and didn’t get one. It cost us in the end.
- 2022 (Buying)
- Angels: Noah Syndergaard for Mickey Moniak and Jadiel Sanchez
- Angels: Brandon Marsh for Logan O’Hoppe
- Cubs: David Robertson for Ben Brown
- Cardinals: Edmundo Sosa for JoJo Romero
- Summary: Who would have thought the Marsh for O’Hoppe trade would have worked out so great at the time? Robertson was never available when we needed him but Sosa is a treasure. The additions got us to the World Series
- 2021 (Buying)
- Rangers: Kyle Gibson, Ian Kennedy, and Hans Crouse for Spencer Howard, Kevin Gowdy, and Josh Gessner
- Orioles: Freddy Galvis for Tyler Burch
- Summary: Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. No one is happy with how the big trade turned out.
- 2020 (Buying, but YIKES!)
- Brewers: David Phelps for Brandon Ramey, Israel Puello, and Juan Geraldo
- Red Sox: Brandon Workman, Heath Hembree, and Connor Seabold for Nick Pivetta
- Yankees: David Hale for Addison Russ
- Summary: Total disaster. The Phillies bullpen was the worst in baseball then somehow found another cliff to fall off with these trades

- Mets: Jason Vargas for Austin Bossart
- Pirates: Corey Dickerson for a Player Who Was Never Named Later
- Yankees: Brad Miller for cash
- Twins: Mike Morin for cash
- Summary: We did get the 3 HR game out of Miller, but this team needed more and didn’t get it.

- Blue Jays: Aaron Loup for Jacob Waguespack
- Rays: Wilson Ramos for a Player Who Was Never Named Later
- Mets: Asdrubal Cabrera for Franklyn Kilome
- Summary: A mess of a year, but we weren’t that good and coul;dn’t have saved it.
- 2017 (Selling)
- Pirates: Seth McGarry for Joaquin Benoit
- Orioles: Hyun-soo Kim and Garrett Cleavinger for Jeremy Hellickson
- Nationals: McKenzie Mills for Howie Kendrick
- Rockies: JD Hammer, Jose Gomez, and Alejandro Requena for Pat Neshek
- Summary: Cleavinger turned into a solid reliever for Tampa after we traded him for Jose Alvarado. This was a bad team though.

- Carlos Ruiz to the Dodgers post-deadline
- Summary: Ruiz was the final piece of the glory days to leave.

- Rangers: Jake Thompson, Alec Asher, Jared Eickhoff, Jorge Alfaro, Nick Williams, and Matt Harrison for Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman
- Blue Jays: Jimmy Cordero and Alberto Tirado for Ben Revere
- Nationals: Nick Pivetta for Jonathan Papelbon
- Chase Utley to the Dodgers post-deadline
- Summary: Fresh off throwing a no-hitter in his final start, we traded Cole Hamels for a whole lot of nothing. Chase Utley leaving later on hurt so bad.

- Giants: Nate Shierholtz, Tommy Joseph, and Seth Rosen for Hunter Pence
- Dodgers: Josh Lindblom and Ethan Martin for Shane Victorino
- Summary: Everything went wrong and it was time to tear it down. Getting nothing of use for Pence was a killer though and we all knew it as soon as the deal happened.
- 2011 (Buying)
- Astros: Hunter Pence for Jon Singleton, Jarred Cosart, Josh Zeid, and Domingo Santana
- Summary: I didn’t like this deal at the time because it was a show of no-confidence in Domonic Brown, but everyone flaming out makes it hurt a little less. The Phillies and Eagles were in a full on competition that didn’t work out for anyone.

- Astros: Roy Oswalt for Anthony Gose, Jonathan Villar, and J.A. Happ
- Summary: This was Ruben Amaro in full Scarface mode
- 2009 (Buying)
- Indians: Cliff Lee and Ben Francisco for Carlos Carrasco, Lou Marson, Jason Donald, and Andrew Knapp
- Summary: Few deals work out better than this one and yet the Phillies still found a way to screw it up.

- Reds: Kyle Lohse for Matt Maloney
- Summary: Tad Iguchi was a show of good will by the White Sox after sending us an injured Freddy Garcia. Iguchi helped us win the division in a huge comeback over the Mets

- Yankees: C.J. Henry, Matt Smith, Carlos Monasterios, and Jesus Sanchez for Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle
- Reds: Justin Germano for Rheal Cormier
- Also acquired Sal Fasano from the Yankees
- Jamie Moyer from the Mariners post-deadline
- Jeff Conine from the Orioles post-deadline
- Summary: We didn’t get anyone of consequence for our vets at the deadline, but this ended up helping anyway. With Abreu and Bell gone, the team ended up taking on the personalities of its younger guys like Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley. 2 years later we were champs.

- Tigers: Ugueth Urbina for Placido Polanco
- Diamondbacks: Matt Kata for Tim Worrell
- Summary: The Urbina deal seemed great at the time but we could have used Polanco at 3rd base and Urbina is better known for lighting people on fire than anything else.

- Reds: Todd Jones for Josh Hancock and Anderson Machado
- Giants: Felix Rodriguez for Alfredo Simon and Ricky Ledee
- Cory Lidle from the Reds post-deadline
- Summary: Citizens Bank Park was the most fun place in the city and we were excited about the Phillies for the first time in a long time.
- 2003 (???)
- Pirates: Mike Williams for Frank Brooks
- Summary: The slow death of the Vet was dragging everyone down and there was no point in doing anything.
- 2002 (Selling)
- Cardinals: Placido Polanco, Bud Smith, and Mike Timlin for Scott Rolen and Doug Nickle (can’t believe we threw in a Nickle)
- Summary: Rolen is villainized for wanting out, but his main complaint was that the Phillies didn’t spend money on their players. He’s hated for that even if we all agree with him. Only Polanco was worth anything here.

- Giants: Felipe Crespo for Wayne Gomes1
- Mets: Turk Wendell for Bruce Chen and Adam Walker
- Summary: All i remember is hating Turk Wendell and his stupid necklaces

- Diamondbacks: Omar Daal, Nelson Figueroa, Travis Lee, and Vincente Padilla for Curt Schilling
- Angels: Kurt Bottenfield for Ron Gant
- Padres: David Newhan for Desi Relaford
- Summary: It was obviously a horrible trade at the time but the Phillies trading Curt Schilling might be the biggest thing to happen to baseball in the 2000s
