All the bullshit of the 2025 season is over. We are no longer defending champs, we no longer have a disgruntled distraction moonlighting as our primary receiver, and we no longer have an 11-year-old calling video game plays on offense. This is a new Eagles team that is loaded with talent and dead set on avenging all of the nonsense that followed them last year.

All of the talk all offseason has been about either AJ Brown or how Jalen Hurts will adapt to Sean Mannion’s new offense. Let’s keep this positive and focus on the near total revamp of the receiving corps. DeVonta Smith is your WR1 and despite his small size, no one doubts his ability to make plays, get open, and be the bell cow for Jalen Hurts. After him though, we finally have properly proportioned depth. Hollywood Brown is the deep threat the team has simply not head since Jalen Hurts took over. You would think a guy known for his deep ball would have been given more speedsters to take the top off the defense, but it’s been limited to Quez Watkins and John Hightower. At the same time, Lemon and Wicks will be expected to use the attention given to Smith and hopefully Brown to get themselves open in the flats and over the middle. This is not the “Feed AJ Brown Show” anymore, this is a complete unit that will be better than people are prognosticating.
It cannot be stressed enough just how completely incompetent Kevin Patullo was. He had absolutely no business calling plays for a team with Super Bowl aspirations like the Eagles. He was not qualified and only got the job because he is friends with the head coach. He was a kid calling plays in Madden. It is simply impossible for this year to not be an improvement.

The defense lost starters and leaders in Blankenship and Dean. That’s not nothing. Dean especially was a guy you would always expect to be in the right place at the right time making the right play. However, they are deep enough and lucky enough to replace them with former top draft picks Cooper DeJean and Jihaad Campbell. DeJean will play more of a nickel/safety hybrid due to the hyper-athletic Woolen manning CB2 duties. Campbell was misused last year as a pass rusher but graded out very well as an off-ball linebacker.
The real wild card is the pass rush. Phillips only managed 2 sacks in his 8 games with the Eagles, but he was regularly in the backfield. The hope is that Jonathan Greenard can get back to his double digit sack ways for the Eagles but even with down production last year, it was very similar to Phillips on a game by game basis. While we haven’t seen much of Greenard yet, we are all very aware of Jalyx Hunt. In just his 2nd year and still new to the position, Hunt put up great numbers in just 62% of the defensive snaps. A level up for Hunt, especially in a rotation with Greenard and Nolan Smith, could lead to a sack barrage for the Birds.
Losing Jeff Stoutland was a shocker last year, but there seems to be more to it that is not getting reported. He is till technically with the Eagles. I think he may have just hated working with Kevin Patullo. Regardless of his role with the team this year, by all accounts, the run protection has been amazing all summer. One of the less publicized problems of last year’s squad was the total inability open up holes for Saquon especially after such a spectacular 2024. Hopefully, that problem is fixed. The offensive line is VERY deep with potential starters manning back up roles.
Prediction
The expectation is the Super Bowl. All of the elements that won two years ago are still here save for AJ Brown. The only real difference is that most of our defensive players are now hitting their primes instead of getting their feet wet. Everyone seems to forget that. As long as the new offense clicks, there is simply no reason to think this team isn’t a contender. The team boasts an elite defense and a steady QB who only gets better in big moments. They can bring a 3rd Lombardi Trophy home in February.
