After last year’s successful trip to Green Bay it’s time to continue around the NFC North for our Eagles revenge at Soldier Field. JoeyBets and the rest of the PFO Fam takes this show on the road. THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
- Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers, 8:15p on Prime
- Michael Penix is here to make his season debut because Cooper Rush stinks and someone looked at Tua Tagovailoa wrong and he remains out. Penix is looking at his last chance for the Falcons. That’s probably not fair, but that’s his lot in Atlanta after last season crashed and burned and Matt Ryan took over for the dismal Terry Fontenot. You can bet Ryan wants someone like him to be under center, not Penix.
- Yikes! The Packers were not supposed to struggle against the Jets. I mean, it’s early and it happens, but the patience for Matt LeFleur in Green Bay is going to run out pretty soon unless this offense starts showing something. If they can’t do it against Atlanta, they can’t do it.
1PM GAMES
- Los Angeles Chargers at Buffalo Bills
- Oh man, I thought the New England Patriots were going to be my Eagles hate watch this season. While, yes, that’s still true, watching the Chargers fail after all the hoopla over Mike McDaniel choosing LA over Philly and Justin Herbert already prepping for his coronation has been simply delicious. I’m never really pulling for the Bills, but an 0-3 start for the Bolts with a brutal schedule coming up will satisfy all my schadenfreudian desires.
- The way the media covers Josh Allen is extremely weird. It is never just the Bills, it is always “Josh Allen and the Bills” as if they are two exclusive things and one always gets top billing. Listening to a broadcast that includes both Allen and the Bills makes it abundantly clear that Allen and Allen alone is the one who wins. Literally no one else gets any credit. He’s great, I’m not trying to take anything away from him, but there needs to be a media reckoning to attempt to focus on any of his teammates once in a while. Despite the narrative, he is not doing it alone.
- Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns
- After two weeks, the Bills are the highest scoring team in football (not Josh Allen and the Bills) but number 2 is the 1-1 Carolina Panthers averaging a shocking 35.5 per game! Things should stay fun this week with the Browns up next. They play the Eagles in Philadelphia on October 18th so it’s something to keep an eye on.
- I know there was a lightning delay but Cleveland winning a 1p day game in Tampa is not nothing. Now they get their first home game of the year coming off a surprising win. It’s a shame they haven’t cut ties with Watson yet because there really is a lot to like about the Browns, they just keep shooting their own good will in the foot.
- New York Jets at Detroit Lions
- It’s too bad the Jets aren’t any good because they really would be 2-0. Just a mess of an ending to let the Packers escape with a victory last week. It’s easy to say that the Lions should kill them at home, but while Detroit is probably overrated, the Jets are underrated and playing pretty well for coach Aaron Glenn despite his very hot seat.
- The Lions were simply never in the game with the Bills. TD, 3 and out, TD, 4 and out, TD…21-0. What the hell was that? It seems like everyone got themselves convinced that the Lions were elite 2 years ago and have yet to let facts deter them from that belief. They missed their window and now have talent but no real direction. I irrationally dislike the Lions because Dan Campbell does less than Nick Sirianni and yet gets more credit and benefit of the doubt.
- Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts
- So much for my Texans Super Bowl pick! The defense that was supposed to suffocate teams has simply not played up to standards (not that giving up 20 points to Joe Burrow is bad) with Reed Blankenship being one of the worst defenders in the NFL so far. It’s not really fair to blame the defense though when the offense is what it is. The 2026 Texans might be the 2025 Eagles.
- Shane Steichen, what are you doing??? For a guy who is so good at designing plays and managing a game, he completely blew it at the end of their Sunday Night game against the Chiefs. Despite having great success at pressing the KC secondary all night, he went super conservative and it ended up being the difference. Also, the defense stinks. Everyone loves the owner being involved in the team, but let’s not forget that she then gets credit for lighting 2 firsts on fire for Sauce Gardner.
- Kansas City Chiefs at Miami Dolphins
- Are you all ready? It was a nice one-year reprieve from all the Chiefs salivating, but it will now be back in full force. They are already 2-0 and get the Dolphins, Raiders, and Chargers coming up. Then it’s the Seahawks and Broncos followed by the Jets, Falcons, and Cardinals. There is a great chance this team is 8-2 with no one having any real idea if they are any good (though they will be #1 in every power ranking). I really forgot how much I hated that little hand thing that Patrick Mahomes does.
- Everything is going according to plan for the Dolphins. They are 0-2 and non-competitive. Other than two dates with the Jets, they should have no problem losing the rest of their games. To any Dolphins fans, just root for losses this season. Your life will be much more enjoyable.
- Tennessee Titans at New York Giants
- Yes, I am a little bitter at the Brian O’Connor “Dude we almost had you” coming from Titans fans after last week’s close loss. Yes, it was a close game, but it is not like the Titans played very well. That’s not supposed to make Eagles fans feel any better. Tennessee took complete advantage of the Eagles mistakes and yes, they almost had us. But they never had us, they never had our …car I guess. However, that Fast and the Furious quote would apply here.
- Damn. Jaxson Dart getting hurt absolutely stinks for the Giants and essentially ends any hope for what would have been considered a successful season. Jameis Winston is fun and all, but no. The Giants will not be making the playoffs this season. They now need to focus on continuing to at least be competent and making the right moves at the trade deadline like trading Jevon Holland, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibideaux. They should use this as a final season to stock up on draft picks.
- Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers
- The Bengals are 2-0 and apparently can play at least some defense. That’s really all the offense ever needed. Their first real test will be in two weeks against the Jaguars and that offense, but until then, they should be able to run circles around a miserable Steelers team that has very little going for it.
- Aaron Rodgers is firmly in the old man stage of his life where it will forever now be someone else’s fault rather than his own. Most people are not playing professional football when they get to this stage, but here we are with Rodgers and his spineless coach friend Mike McCarthy. For anyone else hoping this situation just gets funnier and funnier as the season progresses, I think we are in luck!
- Seattle Seahawks at Washington Commanders
- Despite being Super Bowl champions, the schedule for the Seahawks never gets too tough. Going Pats, Cardinals, Commanders, Chargers to start the season should be an easy trip to 4-0. This is going to be a workmanlike destruction kind of game. Literally the only thing going against Seattle here is that they are traveling to the east coast for a 1pm game. Otherwise, this is a cakewalk even with a backup QB.
- While the Seahawks are able to handle the loss of Sam Darnold because they are an overall very talented team, that is not true in the least for Washington. Jayden Daniels IS the Commanders (much more so than Josh Allen is the Buffalo Bills). Without him, this team is not just dead, they are VERY dead. If they don’t beat the Colts or Giants over the next 2 weeks, they are staring at 0-8 with the 49ers, Eagles, and Rams bringing them into November. Yikes!
- New England Patriots at Jacksonville Jaguars
- The Patriots beating the hapless Steelers thanks to a big running TD and a fumble return did not answer any questions about Drake Maye. He is going to need to fill the stat sheet to beat the Jaguars on the road. If he can’t do that, this might be a long season thanks to some pretty gaudy offenses on the schedule like the Bears, Chiefs, Lions, and the Bills twice.
- Last year, the Jaguars offense looked like it was the future of the NFL. Everyone was running open everywhere. The problem was that the Jags didn’t play anyone good to end the season. So far this year, it’s the same pattern. They crushed the Browns then lost to the Broncos without doing much. While we don’t know if the Patriots are any good, this is certainly not a game Trevor Lawrence can lose and claim that this will be a successful season.
4PM GAMES
- Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers
- After a shocking opening week win over the Chargers, the Cardinals got back to reality with a pretty rough performance against the defending champs. It may have been tied at halftime, but the Cardinals managed just 151 yards of offense, 4 less than what they gave up to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Expect something similar this week.
- The 49ers lovefest is in full force right now after beating a brain dead Rams team and maybe the least talented team we’ve seen in years, the Dolphins. They are about to go 3-0 and top all the power rankings. It will be very annoying as the 49ers vs Chiefs Super Bowl prognostications start.
- Minnesota Vikings at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- I know it was raining, but what in the hell was that last week? 9-3? It’s worse than you think too considering the Bears had two turnovers and a missed field goal. The Vikings simply had 6 punts and 3 FGs with their 9 drives. Kyler Murray is back this week though. Who the hell knows if that is going to make this team better
- Baker Mayfield is not a good QB, I’m sorry. He can tear up a prevent defense once his team is trailing in the 4th quarter by slinging the ball all over, but ask him to actually play QB for 60 minutes? Impossible. This week he gets to try to play QB against Brian Flores. It will not go well.
- Baltimore Ravens vs Dallas Cowboys from Brazil
- Seems an awful lot like Baltimore fell into an early trap game against the Saints last week. Now they get to face a Cowboys defense that isn’t close to fixed. If the Ravens can’t get it going against them, it might be that their opening week demolition of the Colts was the fluke, not their loss at home to New Orleans. Also, as always, fuck the Cowboys.
- Dak and company were all smiles after beating the Commanders without Jayden Daniels, surely believing that they are back on track. Of course, that ignores that the defense was given the gift of the Daniels injury from a team otherwise devoid of talent. They scored though. Considering the field should be a mess, this might be a completely defenseless game in Brazil.
- Las Vegas Raiders at New Orleans Saints (Feel Good Game of the Week)
- The Raiders are 2-0! Kirk Cousins is 2-0! Nakobe Dean is 2-0! Craziness has hit Las Vegas! Maybe the Chargers just gave the game to them, but this has to be the best Raiders fans have felt in forever. One of the key needs in the NFL is competence and with Cousins, Dean, and Tyler Linderbaum, the Raiders have competence right now. That doesn’t mean they have a lot of talent, but they at least aren’t the trainwreck they were last year with Pete Carroll and Chip Kelly.
- Tyler Shough is not supposed to be this good. He and Keeln Moore have something though and it has been pretty cool to see from a team that was supposed to be the worst in the league last year and had low expectations this year. It stinks that both of these teams have to play each other because everyone is rooting for them to win each week.
SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
- Los Angeles Rams at Denver Broncos (Eagles play the Rams next week)
- Here we go. The Rams beat a Jameis Winston led Giants team and now they are back on track as the greatest team ever, right? This game should be a little more of a barometer as to how good they are. Then we get our showdown next week in Philadelphia
- I was harsh on the Broncos last week after their dud in Week 1, but they didn’t exactly light up the Jaguars either. Their 2 TDs were on a pick and a missed field goal and they managed only 6 points through 45 minutes. That is not going to cut it against the Rams. Of course, I am giving the Broncos zero benefit of the doubt but am about to do just the opposite for the Eagles.
MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
- Philadelphia Eagles at Chicago Bears
- Jalen Hurts was awesome against the Titans…except for those two interceptions. They were not awesome. Considering he was constantly running for his life though thanks to terrible blocking and uncalled penalties, getting the W following a superb 2-minute drill while he looked completely comfortable throwing wherever he wanted is what counts. Now they just have to get this blocking taken care of. They can’t keep going into 3rd and long expecting Hurts to bail them out. The good news is that Sean Mannion can recognize this better than Kevin Patullo ever could and they are facing a Bears defense that is not nearly as good as the one that stole our lunch last year. This is a revenge game
- After all the comedy of Caleb Williams injury last week, is he going to play this week? We still don’t know. He is not going to practice all week, but they aren’t going to rule him out. This is gamesmanship one way or the other. He either plays when we don’t think he will or doesn’t play when we think he does. It could go either way. If it’s not him though, then who is it going to be? His backup is hurt which means we could be looking at 2018 NFC Championship game hero Case Keenum! How about that? Also, I’m going to be there and as much as you’d think I want to see a good game, I want everything to be as easy as possible. A lot of guys like a challenge…not me.
