Updates are not going to be nearly as rapid today. My family is ready to revolt against my constant typing and TV watching while shirking regular duties. To start today, we are picking 111, 130, 161, 165, 168, and 191.

Recapping Day 1

Recapping Day 2

10:11p Final Note

Collectively, we as Eagles fans have not given enough attention to Ty Robinson and his camel

8:00p Eagles UDFAs

We’ve had some luck with undrafted free agents in the past including Reed Blankenship and Corey Clement.

Hollin Pierce – Rutgers OT is absolutely gargantuan at 6’8″ 350 lbs. ALL THE SIZE.

ShunDerrick Powell – RB out of Central Arkansas. He’s very small, like half of Pierce at 5’8″ and 180 pounds. The Eagles probably hope that if the squint enough Darren Sproles is headed to Philly.

Gabe Taylor – S from Rice is Sean Taylor’s little brother. He ran a 4.38 at his prob day and was a 4 year starter racking up 10 picks. He is small at 5’10” and 170 pounds.

Montrell Johnson – RB out of Florida with pretty solid testing. Honestly, I’m kind of surprised he wasn’t drafting with these numbers. From the stats, it looks like he would have been better off leaving 2 years ago if he could.

Lance Dixon – LB Toledo

B.J. Mayes – CB Texas A&M
Brandon Johnson – S Oregon
Maxen Hook – S Toledo

Taylor Morin – WR/KR Wake Forest

7:00p Day 3 Catch Up Part 2

Sorry about that. I think I overdrafted myself. Anyway, here’s what I missed:

The Eagles took Cameron Williams, the LT from Texas. We are trying our best to convert Matthew McConaughey apparently. Not that this was a bad pick at all. He had been sitting high on ESPN’s best available board since before I went to sleep. The feeling on him was that he was a surprise entry into the draft pool due to his incredibly raw talents and massive size. And massive is an understatement. He is 6’6″ and 320 pounds which is considered slim for him (he was up to 360). All his body measurables are considered top of the class, but injury prevented him from actually performing at the combine. He seems like he is a completely different person from the one who only started a year in Austin and that’s a good thing. 360 and out of shape isn’t good, but he realized he needed to change. That kind of attitude is what Stoutland University was looking for in entrance essays.

Antwuan Powell-Ryland was the Eagles final pick of the draft, going at #209. He is another guy who stood out on the RAS chart, coming in at 9.18. This was clearly something the Eagles were interested in. To sum up, fast but small. APR isn’t just speed though, he had considerable production this season racking up 16 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 19 tackles for loss in 12 GAMES!!! That’s bonkers. He started his college career in Gainesville but transferred to Blacksburg two years ago. To me, this feels like the kind of guy who sticks on the roster and impresses in camp, providing quality reps in a limited role. He’s just small. We’ll see if he’s a “that ain’t all” type.

Time to wait for the Undrafted free agents to start rolling in. Eagles are always pretty ggressive with this.

6:39p Woke Up

I completely passed out on the couch while watching. Time to catch up. What did I miss?

4:28p Eagles Draft OT Myles Hinton

Who is Myles Hinton? He is a little more interesting than a regular 6th round pick for the Eagles. He was the #2 OT and #12 recruit overall coming out of high school. After 3 years at Stanford, he transferred to Michigan and won a National Title. That would normally be good, but he lost his starting role mid-season that year. He got it back as a senior, but didn’t really show out at all. His father was all-pro Chris Hinton and his brother is also in the league with the Chargers.

He doesn’t have any testing results, so I am not sure of the athletic profile. I will dive in on this later.

Eagles still have 2 more picks this round.

3:58p Eagles Re-Draft Tanner McKee

Kyle McCord of Syracuse goes to the Eagles at 181. He’s a local boy who was born in Mount Laurel before going to high school in Philly with Marvin Harrison Jr. The duo went to Ohio State together before McCord eventually transferred to Syracuse where he put up video game numbers last season. Syracuse threw the ball A LOT. McCord led the nation in yards, completions and attempts (and INTs). He didn’t work out at the combine, so he has no athletic measurables.

In the 5th round, Cleveland jumped the Eagles to take Shadeur Sanders. Was it a coincidence or were they trying to get him before Philly committed to their destiny of taking the unwanted QB? Drafting McCord here certainly fits that narrative that Philly was in the market.

3:45p Day 3 Catch Up

The Eagles traded out of Pick 165 and received 181 and 209. At 168 we took ESPNs 3rd ranked center, Drew Kendall, out of Boston College. His father was in the league for 13 years so he has a good pedigree. With a pro athlete father comes good genes too. Kendall is 6’4″ and 300 pounds and another athletic freak of a man scoring a 9.2 RAS with some impressive combine results for an enormous man. Don’t let the odd sizes fool you, he is being compared to Tackles in those results, not other centers. If they were bigger, they would be tackles! The Eagles were not deep at Center last year as we saw in the playoffs when Cam Jurgens was forced to play hurt after his replacement, Landon Dickserson, went down himself. We spend a 6th on Dylan McMahon last year, but because he didn’t make the final roster, he was poached by the Rams and stuck.

3:41p Birthday Party is Over

Damn kids ruining Day 3 of the Draft!

3:00p Eagles Draft Smael Mondon Jr

What have the Eagles been missing this draft? Bulldogs! Mondon is a linebacker out of Athens who’s very quick. He’s under weight for an LB, but he’s got all sorts of quickness. He’s another RAS darling who is one of their best rated LBs ever. Noticing a trend? It was tough to find anything on him because so many people are named Smael Mondon. Dad, of all the Jrs out there, did you really have to do the kid dirty like that?

2:35 Eagles Draft Double Big Mac

Mac McWilliams is a fast but small corner out of UCF. He returns kicks too. Speed is the whole package as you can see from his spider chart. His RAS is solid, up for speed but down for size

2:17p The Cleveland Browns Jumped the Eagles for Shadeur Sanders!

1:28p Eagles Trade Out

Looks like they were targeting Jalen Travis (I wanted Jaylin Lane who went to the Commanders). We get 145 and 207. Not sure what was wrong with Mbow who they had in on a Top 30 visit, but we have about an hour before the next one.

12:56p Ty Robinson is a Monster!

In the good way. He seems built more like a professional wrestler than football player because he’s a physical specimen. Think like Lane Johnson but on the other side of the ball. He is almost 24 but managed 6 years in college. He broke out big time this season with 7 sacks and 12 tackles for a loss in 13 games. His RAS score is incredible at 9.89, 24th at the position (out of 2000+) in the last 40 years. That’s on Jihaad Campbell’s level. Check out the local blogs about him:

12:35p Eagles Select Ty Robinson

Robinson is an athletic DT from Nebraska who doesn’t exactly fit the position mold. He’s a solid muscle instead of immovable object at 6’5″ and 290 pounds.  His spider chart is pretty damn cool looking. I love that Howie is going for depth and upside here on the defensive line

11:44a What to Know

Day 3 is all about taking flyers on depth.  This means 3 things: guys coming off injury, high athleticism with low production, and low athlecism with high production. You want a guy who has the possibility of sticking around with the team for a reason, but wasn’t picked highly for other reasons. No one’s perfect today. I expect Howie to focus on line depth rather than addressing any specific need. I might want this team to add a tight end, but I doubt it.

11:00a Day 3 Best Available

  • QB Shadeur Sanders – He is firmly in Eagles territory now
  • WR Jaylin Lane – tested off the charts
  • TE Gunnar Helm
  • DT Joshua Farmer
  • OG Marcus Mbow
  • OT Logan Brown – RAS of 9.5

  1. This is the best Philly information and opinions I have found, been following the Eagles for almost 70 years since Franklin Field.
