Eagles Week(end) Rooting Guide: Too Much Football? Impossible

There are 24 separate hours of NFL football over the next 5 days. You have a legitimate chance of spending 20% of your weekend watching football. THAT’S NOT EVEN COUNTING COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!! The only place we could fit more in would be with an NFL Europe game Sunday morning. Let’s say you get your 8 hours (lol) of sleep each night, that leaves you with only 56 hours in 5 days to do anything else. I hope you’re not cooking.

Thanksgiving Games

  • Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions
    • With the Bears shockingly leading the division, this game is massive for playoff implications. Green Bay’s tie with the Cowboys haunts them as it takes any tie breakers out of the equation. A loss here knocks them down to the 8th spot in the NFC (assuming everything else goes chalk).
    • Of course if the Packers beat the Lions again, that means Detroit is pretty dead. They are playing for their lives each week now.  The Giants had them but they escaped. I know the Eagles beat both teams, but I need Detroit out of the playoffs. They are dangerous
  • Kansas City Chiefs at Dallas Cowboys
    • Our two rivals. Kansas City is in the same boat as Detroit. Any more missteps and they are toast. What would we rather have? Kansas City in the playoffs or Dallas continuing to feel themselves? This is a pivotal game.
    • As much as I hate KC, I need the Cowboys to get theirs first, last, and always. A loss drops them to 5-6-1, 3.5 games behind the Eagles with 5 to play. Obviously we can’t take anything for granted, so getting the division is more important than spiting the Chiefs.
  • Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens
    • Joe Burrow is back but the 3-8 Bengals are done. This is a team that needs to do some soul searching in the offseason.
    • The Ravens haven’t looked great, but they keep winning. After a horrible schedule and Lamar Jackson injury left them for dead, they now find themselves in a familiar division, atop the division and probably locked in the 4 seed

Black Friday

  • Chicago Bears at Philadelphia Eagles
    • The Bears keep escaping and stacking wins, but they haven’t beaten anyone good yet. They have the Eagles at a weak moment. This game will tell everyone if they are for real. Thanks to Green Bay facing Detroit, even a loss keeps them in the playoffs.
    • I cannot stress how important this game is after last week. Heads will need to roll if this game is more of what we saw in the 2nd half against Dallas. If we lose, we are officially back in 2023. If we win, the Super Bowl defense is back on. It’s that simple.

1pm Games

  • Los Angeles Rams at Carolina Panthers
    • Need the Rams to lose, it’s that simple. They look damn good though. Our best hope is that Carolina has been playing well and LA has to come cross country for a 1p game. Need some magic
    • The Panthers have been fun and at 6-6, they are .5 games out of a playoff spot. Winning this game would change everything with Tampa on their tailspin. Hopefully they know that. Of course, they don’t have Travon Moehrig thanks to his suspension. Could have used him out there!
  • San Francisco 49ers at Cleveland Browns
    • Brock Purdy looked rough out there last week. He needs to get himself together, but Myles Garrett is not going to make that easy. If he’s off his game, SF is looking at a possible upset here.
    • Are the Browns actually interesting? Shadeur Sanders played well and looked competent out there getting his first win last week. Unfortunately it destroyed their hope at the #1 pick, but Cleveland fans had to feel pretty good for the first time in a long time.
  • Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts
    • Thursday and Friday will be fun (assuming we win) but this is the game I’m looking forward to. Houston’s defense is absurd and they have the opportunity to punch their division leader in the jaw. A win here announces that the Texans are for real.
    • Of course, if Indy wins, the division and any hope for the Texans it’s extinguished. The Colts will be able to focus on bigger things like a first round bye. I know we like Steichen, but I want Houston to make this interesting. UPDATE: I just found out that Daniel Jones is playing with a broken fibula and he has been for weeks. Why did we only find out about this now? Will Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson literally snap him in half? It’s on the table.
  • New Orleans Saints at Miami Dolphins
    • The Saints guy a gift from the Browns last week and are now up to the #2 pick in the draft assuming they keep losing. If the Titans pull a game out, NO goes to #1. A win here upends things even more
    • Miami is just a run of the mill bad team now. There was hope that their dysfunction would lead to a high draft pick, but that dream is dead. You could say Mike McDaniel is coaching for his job, but he’s going to be gone no matter what. They are just boring now.
  • Atlanta Falcons at New Jersey Jets
    • I know you may have Jets friends you like to make fun of, but we need them to win. The Rams get the Falcons pick this year so we need it to be as bad for LA as possible. They were flirting with a top 5 pick just last week but are now down to a healthy #11
    • The Jets desperately need to lose for their sake. They are sitting at 3 right now but will hop the Titans with a Tennessee win. All these teams play in the coming weeks too.
  • Arizona Cardinals at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
    • The Cardinals were lucky to escape Jacksonville with a loss last week but that’s been their MO all season. They play really well but don’t win. Everyone in Carolina is going to have one eye on this one.
    • The Bucs have completely fallen apart, losing 3 in a row and now have the Panthers breathing down their necks. Let’s hope Gannon finishes the job this time to help Carolina out.
  • Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans
    • The Jags, Bills, and Chargers are all 7-4 and occupy the 3 wild card spots. The Texans, Chiefs, and Steelers are right behind them. The Jags have been up and down all year but should keep KC at bay for another week.
    • I know the Titans are a sad sack organization but I want them to win. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a bad thing. They currently have the #1 pick in the draft but their Strength of Schedule is so high that a win makes them tumble down to #5. They are holding on by their finger tips.

4pm Games

  • Minnesota Vikings at Seattle Seahawks
    • The JJ McCarthy era… woof. He’s out this week leaving Max Brosmer as the signal caller. That’s rough.
    • It’s also good because we need the Seahawks to keep pace with the Rams. Don’t mess up your priorities this week. We need Seattle to win.
  • Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers
    • Chip Kelly couldn’t even last until he played the Eagles. COME ON MAN! What an a-hole that guy is. The Raiders are a total mess and I’ll be writing about their front office “plan” later this week
    • If you are invested in the Chiefs not making the playoffs then you want the chargers to win this game. That’s me. However, I’m also invested in Herbert being bad. How about a terrible win over a terrible team? Can we do that Not San Diego?
  • Buffalo Bills at Pittsburgh Steelers
    • The Bills lose terribly and all anyone wants to do is make excuses for Josh Allen. As soon as they win, they want to give him all the flowers. They lost last week and it was his fault. That’s ok people, you can admit it. A loss this week though and they’ll be out of the playoffs. The Steelers would pass them and possibly the Texans too. This is a low key big game.
    • The Steelers have been the barometer all year. Beat them and you’re good, lose and you’re bad. There’s a chance Aaron Rodgers plays this week. They need him. This one is important.

Sunday Night Football

  • Denver Broncos at Washington Commanders
    • I’m sure this seemed like a great matchup when the schedule makers got together in the offseason with Bo Nix vs Jayden Daniels. Unfortunately life got in the way. Without Daniels, the Commanders might lose all of their remaining games. They are that bad.
    • As for the Broncos, man I hate Sean Payton. I can’t see them losing this one though.

Monday Night Football

  • New York Giants at New England Patriots
    • Damnit Giants, you couldn’t put Detroit away last week? That’s been the story of the season. They’ve been in damn near every game but can’t pull out any wins. For their sake, they need to keep losing.
    • The Patriots have the Giants, then their bye week, then the Bills. With everything coming down to that matchup at home, this certainly feels like a possible trap game. Of course the Giants will be trying their best to blow it, but still.
