I am not going to rehash this past weekend. Ed already accomplished that in the postmortem article about the Chicago weekend. I am down in pretty much every aspect of my life other than my elite performance in picking college football games.

I am not going to feel sorry for myself. My phone is back. I am going to attack my rehab for my back and get back to normal. The downed trees in my driveway have been removed, and my house is getting much better natural sunlight now. I have officially quit Zyn (day 4 and counting) which should allow for better blood flow to my damaged spinal disc and help with healing. I will be back on the BJJ mats by early next year with a strengthened back and determination. I will not be denied. Even just typing that made me feel a little better. (EDitor’s Note: JB is almost a Brown Belt)

And yes, I did make the mistake of declaring myself a gambling god when I was sitting on 9-0 last Saturday making friends with everyone at a packed Butch McGuire’s in Chicago. Would I have liked to have had that moment back? Sure. But I will not dwell on mistakes and instead will use this experience to become a better person, father, husband, grappler, and gambler. I choose to have gratitude for the challenges that life presents.

With all that said, I went 9-3 last week which brings my season record to an admittedly stunning 27-13. I won’t be saying much about the games highlighted below because I am pressed for time considering I spent two days in the hospital this week dealing with my back.

Good luck this week. I will see you on the other side

Memphis at Charlotte (+20.5, o/u 51.5)

Saturday, 10/3, 11:00 am EST

Memphis -20.5. Charlotte stinks.

Michigan at Minnesota (+6, o/u 43.5)

Saturday, 10/3, 12:00 pm EST

Michigan lost a heartbreaker last week against Iowa. We got to watch the game with groups of both fanbases, and it was awesome to witness.

This line moved as a result of Minny winning as a double-digit dog at Washington. But matchups are everything in this game. Michigan brings a far superior defense that is going to have Minnesota in a struggle bus on offense. Michigan isn’t a national champion contender but they have the far superior team and will win by double digits. Give me the Wolverines -6.

UCF at Houston (-11.5, o/u 50.5)

Saturday, 10/3, 12:00 pm EST

Houston is the far superior team here. Getting this line under two TDs is a great spot here. Take the Cougars -11.5.

Alabama at Mississippi State (+5.5, o/u 60.5)

Saturday, 10/3, 12:00 pm EST

I am a believer in both teams. But I’m a bigger believer in Super Kamario Taylor. The Bulldogs have that look. Give me State and buy it up to +6. And give me the over but buy it down to 59.5.

Michigan State at Wisconsin (-9.5, o/u 43.5)

Saturday, 10/3, 12:30 pm EST

This line is too high for an old school Big Ten battle. Michigan State got throttled by Nebraska in a tough spot coming off of a spirited battle against Notre Dame. They will come up much tougher this week and keep this close. Michigan State +9.5 and buy to +10.

Kentucky at South Carolina (-2.5, o/u 53.5)

Saturday, 10/3, 4:15 pm EST

Fishy line here is you ask me. Kentucky is ranked and a slight dog against a South Carolina team that has opened SEC play 0-2. But looking at the big picture, Kentucky’s win in College Station against Texas A&M isn’t as impressive now. I like South Carolina’s defense to rise up after getting rid of the cancerous (although very talented) Dylan Stewart. Their defensive line still has a ton of talent. And Shane Beamer needs this win in the worst way possible. Give me the Gamecocks -2.5.

Baylor at Arizona State (-3.5, o/u 48.5)

Saturday, 10/3, 10:30 pm EST

I like getting over a field goal with the superior defense. Give me the Baylor Bears +3.5.

Last Week: 9-3
Season Record: 27-13

  1. One disintegrated spinal column is worth satisfying the gambling gods and keeping the win rate mojo intact! Thank you for your sacrifice 🫡
